Privacy Policy

We take the privacy and confidentiality of the members of our Research Panel very seriously:

  • Registration is based on Second Life names rather than real life names.
  • The panel itself and individual research projects are all opt-in. Any panel member can decline to participate in a particular research project or choose to leave the research panel at any time for any reason.
  • Information is collected via a secure HTTPS Web connection.
  • When someone updates their panel details, a message is also sent to them in Second Life saying that a change has been made.
  • Information is always reported in a way that does not make it possible to identify an individual respondent (Second Life resident or real life person) unless they’ve given explicit permission to be identified in a particular situation. (For example, if in a customer satisfaction survey someone wanted the organization to be aware of a problem that they in particular had.)
  • We do not use the information we collect about panelists for any purpose other than research. We do not disclose panelist’s details to third parties except in two situations:
    • When providing participants for research projects being conducted by select academic institutions, which in turn have agreed to maintain participants’ confidentiality. Invitations for such projects are clearly identified, and panelists may opt out of this type of research entirely.
    • If required to do so by law.
  • We adhere to the Marketing Research Association’s Code of Marketing Research StandardsExt PDF.
